Miguel Fernandes da Conceição Cunha, MD, FEBS-C, is a Portuguese colorectal surgeon based at the Algarve University Hospital Center, Portugal, where he integrates the Reference Center of Rectal Cancer and leads the Proctology Clinic . He is a Fellow of the European Board of Coloproctology (FEBS-C) and completed an ESCP-sponsored fellowship in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery at Hospital del Mar, Barcelona.

Dr. Cunha serves on the Executive Committee of the European Society of Coloproctology as Chair of the Communications Committee and is section Editor of the International Journal of Colorectal Disease. He is Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Algarve and actively involved in surgical education and residency leadership.

His clinical practice is focused on colorectal minimally invasive surgery. His academic work centers on colorectal cancer, quality improvement, and sustainability in surgery. He is currently a PhD candidate in Clinical Research, focusing on “Sustainability in Surgery”. He has authored and co-authored 69 peer-reviewed publications, with an H-index of 26 , and has played a leading role in international collaborative studies.

José Azevedo is a colorectal surgeon who currently works in the Digestive Unit of Champalimaud Foundation in Portugal. His clinical practice is fully dedicated to colorectal cancer treatment. He is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon. The research interests are in colorectal cancer, namely the evaluation of the response to treatment in rectal cancer, early-stage rectal cancer, the use of minimally invasive surgery and the use of new artificial intelligence methods to support surgical clinical practice. He currently runs a program fully dedicated to early onset colorectal cancer patients at CF.
